Americas Got Talent: Moya Angela has opened up about her experience
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the singer revealed that she is “very happy” to have missed on the live finals of the US television contest.
The actress won over the judges with her rendition of one of Celine Dion’s biggest hits two years ago, but failed to get past the quarterfinals.
Moya is now performing as Effie White in the hit production, after past Broadway credits in The Lion King and Ghost the Musical.
When asked how she looked back at her time on America’s Got Talent, she commented: “It was an amazing and eye-opening experience.
“One that I will never forget. It taught me I am exactly where I need to be as an artist, especially after I got a standing ovation from all four judges, including Simon [Cowell].”
On failing to advance to the live stages, Moya continued: “Not gonna lie, I’m very happy I didn’t because I booked InTransit during that time and I had to immediately move to New York to start rehearsals.
“Everything happens for a reason. And when you put your career in the hands of the people, God always has a way to take over your fate.”
Asked what people don’t realise about the reality show, she stated: “It’s a TV show first before it’s a competition. So the process is not always what it seems.”
Moya, who said she was proud of herself for trying it out regardless, said she had no regrets.
Meanwhile, Moya is firmly focusing on Dreamgirls after being “obsessed” with singing the score from an early age.
